You will know them by their fruits.  Do men gather grapes from thornbushes or figs from thistles?  Even so, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit.  A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a bad tree bear good fruit.

(Matthew 7:16-18)

How many times have you heard someone say that a person gave them a Word from God and they ended up shipwrecked and disillusioned?  The Lord Jesus Christ wants us to not only judge the Word given to us but also the person who claims to hear from God!

Would you allow a brain surgeon to operate on you when he never performed a successful operation in his career?  Would you allow a mechanic to repair your car when he does not own his own tools or does not know how to open your hood?  Why would you listen to a person who claims to hear and speak for God when their life is a complete disaster and morally bankrupt?

There are many voices in the land who claim to hear from God, but very few bear the fruit or a history of ever being right.  Judge the fruit of their lives.  Would you take investment advice from a person who is bankrupt with holes in his shoes?  Jesus wants us to be led by His Spirit, His Word and the inward witness of your Spirit For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God (Romans 8:14).

You are already clean because of the word which I have spoken to you.  Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me.  I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing.

(John 15:3-5)

But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, willing to yield, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality and without hypocrisy.

(James 3:17)

Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock: “and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock.  “But everyone who hears these sayings of Mine, and does not do them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand: “and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it fell. And great was its fall.
